CHAP. 211

CHAPTER 211.

AN ACT to appropriate fifteen hundred dollars to the Public
Records Commission of Maryland.

WHEREAS, The General Assembly of Maryland at the Ses-
sion of 1904 created the Public Records Commission, to

serve without pay, to examine into the condition and com-
pleteness of the public records of the State, and report
thereon; and further authorized the Governor to appoint the
members thereof; and

WHEREAS, Hester Dorsey Richardson, Bernard C. Steiner
and Samuel K. Dennis were appointed and duly qualified as
members of the said commission, and they have caused an
examination to be made of all the public records of the State
of Maryland, except part of the records in the Court House
of Baltimore city, and part of the records in the State House
at Annapolis, and part of the municipal records of Baltimore
city, and the records of Prince George's county; and

WHEREAS, The said commission has collected much valu-
able information and data concerning the number, location,
completeness and condition of the public records of the
State, and has discovered many original documents of value,
and made a complete calendar of all the records as far as
the work has progressed, and caused a compilation to be
made and printed of all the offices of the State, political
sub-divisions and incorporated towns, from the beginning of
the provincial records, with a reference to the Acts relating
thereto, which furnishes an easy, accurate and convenient
source of information; and

WHEREAS, There are many more interesting and valuable
records to be examined by the said commission, and the
work when completed will be of great value, and the said
work should be finished and the data obtained edited, pre-
pared and published, so as to be easily accessible to the
public; and

WHEREAS, The work and labor involved was much greater
than was anticipated, and the said commission has exhausted
its appropriation, and is without means to further prosecute
the said work in the public offices aforesaid, and to print a
complete and detailed report of its operations; now, there-
fore,
