CHAPTER 17.
AN ACT to repeal Chapter 285 of the Acts of the General
Assembly of Maryland for the year 1890, and to re-enact
the same with amendments.

Repeal and
re-enact.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Chapter 285 of the Acts of the General Assembly
of the year 1890, and the same is hereby repealed and
re-enacted with amendments, to read as follows :
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the County Commissioners
of Garrett County shall appoint a fit person as warden of

the jail of Garrett county, who shall perform all janitor
service of said jail and shall have charge of said jail in keep-
ing the same heated and cleaned, and shall be responsible
for escapes occasioned by his own acts in the same manner
and to the same extent as the Sheriff of said county and
perform such other duties as shall be required of him by the
said County Commissioners of Garrett County.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said warden, before he
enters upon the duties of his office, shall take an oath before

the clerk of said County Commissioners that he will faith-
fully execute the duties and trust and exercise the powers
vested in him as such warden, and shall give bond to the
said County Commissioners with sureties, to be approved by
said County Commissioners, in the penalty of three thousand
dollars, conditioned for the faithful performance of his duties
as such warden and for any default of his in the escapes of
prisoners, which bond shall be filed and recorded in the
office of said County Commissioners.
SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the warden shall hold his
position for the period of two years unless sooner removed

by the County Commissioners for incompetency, disobedi-
ence, neglect of duty or other causes which in the judgment
of the County Commissioners may be sufficient for such
removal, and that the salary of said warden shall be fixed
|

Salary.
|
by said County Commissioners of Garrett County, which,
shall not be less than five hundred dollars nor more than
seven hundred and fifty dollars in each year, and which
shall be paid in monthly installments.
SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
