SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Charles S. Watts, William Vance, William
W. Varney, William D. Steinman, Howard Tebbs and John
W. Edelen and their associates and successors, be and they are
hereby constituted a body corporate and politic, under the
name of "The Chesapeake Market and Constructing Com-
pany," and by that name shall have perpetual succession.

CHAP. 604.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the provisions of this Act
shall not apply to Garrett, Somerset and Washington counties;
and provided further, that said company, under the above name
and style, be capable in law to sue and be sued, plead and be
impleaded, to answer and be answered in any Court of Law or
Equity ; to make and use a common seal and alter the same,
and be subject to and have all the privileges and advantages of
all laws governing corporations in this State as heretofore
enacted, as is specified under Article 23 of the Public General
Laws of Maryland, and now in force or may hereafter be
enacted, excepting as herein granted or enacted.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That said company shall have
the power to buy, sell, mortgage and dispose of real and per-
sonal property in this State and beyond this State, and to have
the power to rent, lease or convey property of any and all
description from or to the State of Maryland, the various
counties, cities, towns, corporations and individuals within the
said State, for a period of forty years, and for procuring and
preparing for market, transporting and selling of live stock,
meats, produce, lumber, timber, woods, trees, seeds, plants,
fruits, roots and other products of land or water, and for carry-
ing on in this State any kind of manufacturing, mechanical,
industrial and chemical business; and for the sale, transporta-
tion or other disposition of the product thereof, and for manu-
facturing, furnishing and selling power for motor, light, heat
or other useful applications for the purpose of the plant and
for the use of the customers of the company, by water, gravity,
steam, air, fluid or current, through the lightways or streets and
public and private buildings of any county, city, village or town
in this State, and said corporation shall have the power to
erect buildings, warehouses and structures necessary thereto,
to maintain the same, and to lay pipes, wires and ducts
through the public streets, avenues, roads, lanes and alleys or
highways in such county, city, village or town, with the con-
sent of the municipal authorities of such county, city, village
or town, aud upon property owned, leased or controlled by
said corporation, under such reasonable regulations and con-
ditions as such county, city, village or town may prescribe,
and to own, build, charter and lease boats, wharves, docks.
