SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 577.
AN ACT to add a new Section to Article 54 of the Code of
Public General Laws of Maryland, title "Land Office," and
to follow Section 3, and to be known as Section 3 A.

CH AP. 577.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted l)y the General Assembly of
Maryland, That a new section be added to Article 54 of the
Public General Laws of Maryland, title "Land Office," to
follow section 3, and to be known as 3 A, to read as follows :

added.

3 A. All writs, attachments, orders and notices issued from
the land office shall be served by the sheriffs of the respective
counties and Baltimore city and make return thereon in the
manner prescribed by the rules of the land office. The Com-
missioner of the Land Office may make rules and regulations
for the taking of depositions before the regular examiners of
the Circuit Courts of the counties or Baltimore city, or any
justice of the peace, for the summoning of witnesses and com-
pelling their attendance. The pay of witnesses and the
examiners or justices of the peace shall be the same as is pro-
vided for in equity cases. Any person authorized to take
depositions shall have the authority to issue subpoenas for
witnesses, when directed to do so, and the sheriff to whom
directed shall serve the same and make returns as in chancery
cases in the Circuit Court. The sheriffs of the counties and
of Baltimore city shall collect all costs and judgments of the
land office as other costs and judgments of the Circuit Courts
are collected, that may be placed in their hands for collection.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 578.
AN ACT to appropriate a sum of money for the maintenance
of the "Annapolis Emergency Hospital."

etc., to be

by sheriff.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Comptroller of the Treasury be and he
is hereby directed to draw his warrants on the Treasurer of the
State for the sum of fifteen hundred dollars on the first day of
July, nineteen hundred and two, and for the sum of fifteen
hundred dollars on the first day of July, nineteen hundred

Warrant to
