CHAP. 542.

Body
corporate.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted ly the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Samuel J. Twiliey, William F. King, S.
Pierce Gordy, Charles M. Peters, Edgar W. McMaster, Henry
P. Merrill and Edgar Fontaine, all of Worcester county,
Maryland, and Albert Sudler and Francis E. Matthews, of
Sorneiset county, Maryland, and their successors, and all per-
sons, firms or corporations who may hereafter become mem-
bers of the corporation to be created by this Act, in manner
hereinafter provided, are hereby created and declared a body
politic and corporate, by the name, style and title of the
Maryland Mutual Live Stock Insurance Company, and by the
same name shall have succession, and shall be able to sue and
be sued; plead and be impleaded, answer and defend, and be
answered and defended in all Courts of Law and Equity in
this State and elsewhere, to have its principal office at some
place within this State, which in the judgment of the direc-
tors of said company shall be most advantageous, to have,
make and use a common seal, and the same to break, alter and
renew at their pleasure, and shall have full power and authority
to make insurances of live stock, including horses, mules,
cattle, sheep, hogs and other domestic beasts, to and for the
owner or owners thereof, against all loss and damage sustained
by the owners thereof by the death of the live stock so
insured, upon such terms and conditions as may be established
by the by-laws of the said company, or expressed in their con-
tracts of insurance; to provide for the keeping and invest-
ment of funds or assets that may become the property of the
company, and generally to transact, execute and perform all
such business as may appertain to a live stock insurance busi-
ness, not contrary to this Act or to the Constitution and laws
of this State or of the United States.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That it shall be the
duty of the secretary of said company to keep a book contain-
ing a copy of this Act and of such by-laws of the said com-
pany as may be established, and that all persons, firms or cor-
porations who wish to become members of the said company
may be required to express, in writing, at the foot thereof,
their assent thereto, and all persons, firms or corporations by
signing an application for insurance therein shall be deemed
to have subscribed their assent to this Act and the by-laws of
said company ; which expression of assent and the payment
of such fees, charges or premiums as may be demanded by the
proper officers of the corporations shall constitute such persons,
firms or corporations, members of the said company, and as
such be bound by all the rules and regulations of said com-
pany, as contained in this Act and in the by-laws of said com-
pany, whether enacted before or after the commencement of
