STATE OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 525.

Sum of
money to be
levied.

County are hereby authorized and directed to levy on the
assessable property of said county for the sum of fifteen thou-
sand dollars for the purpose of building a school house, as
hereinafter mentioned, and said sum, or so much thereof as
may be necessary, shall then be applied by and for that pur-
pose, paid to the School Commissioners of said county for the
erection of a public school house in the village of Sparrows
Point in said Baltimore county ; said sum shall not be availa-
ble for said purpose until The Maryland Steel Company
shall execute a deed in fee simple to the School Commissioners
of Baltimore county of the lot of ground on which said
school house is to be erected, and such lot of ground shall be
subject to the approval of the School Commissioners of Balti-
more county.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 520.

AN ACT to appropriate a sum of money to be expended by
the Adjutant General of Maryland in payment of the claims
of members of the Fifth Regiment United States Volunteer
Infantry in the war with Spain, for expenses of their illness
in such service.

Preamble

WHEREAS, Certain members of the Fifth Regiment United
States Volunteer Infantry presented claims for their expenses
incurred by them on account of illness contracted by them
while in the service of the United States to the Adjutant
General of Maryland ; and
WHEREAS, Said claims were not paid by said Adjutant
General of Maryland, because the funds out of which said
claims could have been paid had been turned back into the
treasury of the State before said claims had been received by
him ; and
WHEREAS, Similar claims of other members of said regi-
ment had been paid by said Adjutant General ; and
WHEREAS, The Adjutant General in returning the claims
of said members stated that it would be necessary to present
such claims to the Legislature of Maryland for payment.

Warrant to
be issued.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Comptroller draw his warrant on the
Treasurer for the sum of fifteen hundred dollars in favor of
the Adjutant General of Maryland, to be disbursed by the
