Adjutant General of Maryland in payment of the claims of
members of the Fifth Regiment United States Volunteer
Infantry for the expenses of illness contracted by them for
doctors' bills, medicines, etc.; upon the receipt by him of
properly approved claims certified to as correct by the proper
military authorities, the checks for the amount allowed each
claimant to be drawn to the order of each claimant and mailed
to each claimant direct by the Adjutant General of Maryland.

CHAP. 636.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That so much of said
sum of fifteen hundred dollars as may not be disbursed by
September 1, 1902, be returned to the treasury of Maryland.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the claims, when
approved, shall not be liable to attachment or any other legal
process either at law or in equity, nor to any deduction for
fees or commissions of any sort.
SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 527.

AN ACT to amend Article 27 of the Code of Public General
Laws of Maryland, title "Crimes and Punishments, " sub-
title "Cruelty to Animals, " by adding a new Section thereto,
to be known as Section 46 L.

attachment.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Article 27 of the Code of Public General
Laws of Maryland, title "Crimes and Punishments, " sub-title
"Cruelty to Animals, " be and is hereby amended by adding a
new section thereto, to be known as section 46 L, and to read
as follows:

Section 46 L. That when complaint under oath is made to
any justice of the peace authorized to issue warrants of arrest,
that the complainant has just and reasonable cause to believe
and does believe that the laws in relation to cruelty to animals
have been or are being violated in any building or place, the
magistrates may issue his search warrant, authorizing and
directing any peace officer or peace officers to enter and
search the buildings or places in order to discover the evidence
of guilt.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
