SEC. 3. The exemption from county and municipal taxation
conferred upon said railroad company by the terms of eaid
chapter 268 of the Acts of 1894 is hereby renewed and
extended for a period of fifteen years from the completion of
said branch of railway herein authorized to be constructed and
acquired, and is also extended to such portions of the said
railway company's property as may lie in Dorchester county ;
provided, however, that such exemption shall immediately
cease and be of no effect if the said branch of railroad herein
authorized to be constructed and acquired shall be purchased
by, Consolidated with, or in any manner pass under the control
of any other railroad company now in existence or under
operation in any of the counties of this State east of Chesa-
peake bay.

CHAPTER 398.
AN ACT to repeal section twenty-one of Article 10 of the
Code of Public General Laws entitled "Attorneys," sub-
title "State's Attorney," so far as the same applies to
Allegany County, and to add and re-enact in lieu thereof
an additional Section to the Public Local Laws, Article No.
1, title "Allegany County," providing a fixed salary for
the State's Attorney and abolishing compensation by fees.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That section No. 21 of Article No. 10 of the
Code of Public General Laws, be and the same is hereby
repealed so far as it applies to Allegany county and no
farther, and that an additional section be and the same is
hereby enacted and added to Article No. 1 of the Code of
Public Local Laws, title "Allegany County," said section
to be entitled " State's Attorney," and to be numbered section
5 A, to read as follows :

Section 5 A. That on and after the expiration of the terra
of office of the present State's Attorney of Allegany County,
in lieu of the fees now paid him for the discharge of the
duties of his office, there shall be paid to him by the County
Commissioners of said county a yearly salary of two thou-
sand dollars, payable quarterly by warrant on the treasurer,
