CHAP. 317.

Repeal and
re-enact.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That section 295 of article 4 of the Code of Pub-
lic Local Laws of Maryland, title "City of Baltimore," as
repealed and re-enacted by chapter 123 of the Acts of 1898,
be and the said section is hereby repealed and re-enacted with
amendments, so as to read as follows :
295. In addition to the coroners provided for in the preced-

ing section the Governor shall appoint one more coroner for
the "City of Baltimore," to be known as the "Coroner at
Large" for said city, whose duty it shall be to act in the
place of any of the coroners who shall have been assigned
to the various police districts of said city who may be pre-
vented by illness or enforced absence from attending to his
duties ; the said coroner at large shall receive the same com-
pensation as is prescribed in the preceding section for other
coroners for said city. The coroners provided for in the pre-
ceding section shall be assigned to such subdivision or district
of the city of Baltimore as the Governor may direct.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 318.

AN ACT to authorize the Mayor and City Council of Balti-
more to provide by Ordinance for the relief of Fannie
Shaefer, widow of John Frederick Shaefer, late a member
of the Baltimore City Fire Department, and who was killed
in the discharge of his duty.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore be
and they are hereby authorized to provide by ordinance annu-
ally such sum as it may deem proper for the relief of Fannie
Shaefer, widow of John Frederick Shaefer, late a fireman in
the Baltimore Fire Department, who was killed in the dis-
charge of his duty, and pay the same to her in such sums as
may be named in the ordinance, such provision not to exceed
four hundred dollars per anuum.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
