CHAP. 286.

the proceeds of such tax shall be used and applied by said
Mayor and Common Council for the sole purpose of improv-
ing, grading, paving, macadamizing and maintaining the streets,
roads, lanes and alleys within the corporate limits of said
town of Manchester ; said special tax to be levied and collected
at the time and in the same manner as other taxes are levied
and collected by the Mayor and Common Council of Man-
chester.

73 B. And be it enacted, That the Mayor and Common
Council are hereby authorized and empowered to levy and
collect each and every year a special tax not exceeding six
cents on every one hundred dollars' worth of the taxable
property of all kinds and descriptions liable to taxation and
assessment within the corporate limits of the town of Man-
chester; and the proceeds of such tax shall be paid to the
Manchester Fire Engine, Hook and Ladder Company No. 1,
a body corporate, who shall use and apply said tax for the sole
purpose of paying the debt of one thousand dollars now owing
by said company on buildings of said company ; and in
case of the dissolution of the company the building and all
other property belonging to said Fire Engine and Hook and
Ladder Company shall become the property of the Mayor and
Common Council of the town of Manchester ; said special tax
to be levied and collected at the time and in the same man-
ner as other taxes are levied and collected by the Mayor and
Common Council of Manchester; provided, that this special
tax shall not be collected after the debt of one thousand shall
have been paid.
SEC. C. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 287.
AN ACT to refund to the Union Indemnity League of
Richmond, Virginia, the sum of seventy-nine dollars erro-
neously paid into the Treasury.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Treasurer of the State be and he is
hereby authorized and directed, upon the warrant of the
Comptroller, to pay to the Union Indemnity League of
Richmond, Virginia, the sum of seventy-nine dollars erro-
neously paid into the treasury, through the Insurance Com-
missioner of Maryland ; the same being fees required of the
Union Indemnity League of Richmond, to do businsss in this
