JOINT RESOLUTIONS.

No. 13.

Joint resolution to appoint a committee of three on the part of
the Senate and five on the part of the House, to meet and
act with a Legislative committee appointed by the General
Assembly of Virginia, to consider certain questions of the
fisheries in the waters dividing the States of Maryland and
Virginia.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, In the month of February, 1896. the General
Assembly of Virginia adopted a resolution appointing a joint
committee of three members, each of the several Houses of
said General Assembly to inquire into the cause of complaints
in reference to the inadequacy of the provisions of the laws
relating to fisheries in the Potomac and Pocomoke rivers and
Pocomoke sound to protect the rights of citizens of Virginia
in said waters, and requested that similar committees on the
part of the General Assembly of Maryland should be appointed
to consider said questions conjointly with the said committees
on the part of the State of Virginia; and

Preamble.

WHEREAS, The said resolution empowered said committee
to sit during the recess of the General Assembly of Virginia;
and it is right and proper that similar committees with similar
powers should be appointed by the General Assembly of Mary-
land; therefore,

Resolved by the General Assembly ^f Maryland, That a
committee of three on the part of the Senate and five on the

part of the House of Delegates, be appointed to meet the said
committees of the State of Virginia during the recess of the
General Assembly of Maryland, at such times and places as
may be mutually agreed upon by the said respective commit-
tees, and to inquire and take into consideration such matters as
of legislation affecting the rights of the citizens of said States
to fish in the waters of the Potomac and Pocomoke river and
Pocomoke sound, and to report to the next General Assembly
of Maryland such concurrent legislation on the subject as iu
their judgment may be best to protect the interests of the citi-
zens of the said States in said waters; and

To act con-
jointly.

Resolved, That the committees so appointed by this General
Assembly be and they are hereby authorized to act conjointly
with the committee appointed by the State of Virginia during
the recess of the General Assembly, until said committees have
concluded their investigations of the subject.
