Effective.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 239.
AN ACT to add new sections to Article six (6) of the Code
of Public Local Laws, title " Caroline County," sub-title
" Almshouse," to come in after Section twenty-six (26) and
to be designated as Sections 26 A, 26 E, 26 e.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Code of Public Local Laws, Article 6, title
" Caroline County," sub-title " Almshouse," be and is hereby
amended by the addition of the following sections, to come
in after section 26, and to be designated as sections 26 A, 26 B,
26C:
26A. The trustees of the poor of Caroline county are hereby

authorized and empowered to sell and dispose of not more
than two hundred (200) acres of the farm now owned by them
as such trustees, and to grant and convey the same, by good
and sufficient deed, to the purchaser or purchasers thereof;
provided, that the said sale shall be reported in writing within
twenty (20) days from the date of such sale or sales to the
County Commissioners of Caroline county, and it shall not be
valid until said sale or sales have been finally ratified and
confirned by said commissioners; and provided further, that
the said sale shall be made by public auction at the court
house door in Denton, after at least twenty (20) days' notice
of the time, place, manner and terms of sale, published, in two
(2) newspapers of opposite political views published in Caro-
line county; and provided further, that said lands so, as afore-
said, authorized to be sold, shall be taken from the easterly
part of said farm, and shall not embrace any of the farm that
is now arable.

26 B. That before making said sale the said trustees shall
designate one of their number as treasurer to receive the pur-
chase-money of said land, who before he receives any of the
