LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, These extraordinary expenses have been incurred
in the enforcement of the laws of this State, tending to the
general good and in stamping out a disease which, if permitted
to become epidemic, would have resulted in great loss of life
and largely increased expenses to the State at large; and

Preamble.

WHEREAS, The payment of said expenses will increase the
tax rate of said county over eighteen cents on the one hundred
dollars of the assessable property of said county, which said
county is illy able to pay; therefore,

Appropria-
tion.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a portion of the costs and expenses incurred by the
County Commissioners of Charles county in the trial of the
cases of the State of Maryland against Belle Farrall, and the
State of Maryland against Henry Johnson, and in stamping
out and eradicating the small-pox epidemic in said county in
the year eighteen hundred and ninety-five, amounting to the
sum (in the aggregate) of five thousand three hundred and
sixty-six dollars and sixty three cents, be paid out of the Treas-
ury of the State; and that the Comptroller be and he is hereby
authorized and directed to adjust and settle the amounts of'
costs and expenses so incurred, and to draw his warrant upon
the Treasurer in favor of the County Commissioners of Charles
county for the said sum of five thousand three hundred and
sixty-six dollars and sixty-three cents, upon satisfactory proof
that the County Commissioners of said county have, in its
behalf, incurred said costs and expenses, and for the purpose
of making such payment the said sum of five thousand -three
hundred and sixty-six dollars and sixty-three cents be and the
same is hereby appropriated.

Effective.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 233.

AN ACT to appropriate a sum of money to pay the Electors
of President and Vice-President of the United States, in
and for the State of Maryland, their officers and attendants.

Appropria-
tion.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the sum of five hundred dollars or so much thereof
as may be necessary, be and the same is hereby appropriated
