SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 230.
AN ACT to authorize the Burgess and Commissioners
of Williamsport, Washington County, to purchase the
public school building there located, and to levy on the
assessable property of said town to pay therefor, and also
to authorize the school commissioners of said county to sell
said building.

WHEREAS, The public school building in Williamsport,
Washington County, is totally inadequate for the purposes of
public education in said town; and,

WHEREAS, The Burgess and Commissioners of said town are
willing to purchase said building to be used for corporate pur-
poses; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Burgess and Commissioners of Williamsport in
Washington county, be and they are hereby authorized to pur-
chase from the school commissioners of Washington county,
the public school building now used for purposes of public
education in said town; and that said Burgess and Commis-
sioners be and they are hereby authorized to levy on the
assessable property of said town, a sum sufficient to pay for
the said building, in case of such purchase.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the County School Com-
missioners of Washington county, be and they are hereby
authorized, in theft discretion, to sell said school building to
the said Burgess and Commissioners of Williamsport, for such
a sum as, in their judgment, is a fair and remunerative price
therefor; and that the money arising from such sale shall be
used in connection with any other moneys which said school
commissioners may have available for that purpose in build-
