SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

Approved April 2d, 1896.


CHAPTER 186.

AN ACT to repeal Section 46, as repealed and re-enacted by
Chapter 437 of the Acts passed at the January session, 1890,
and to repeal Sections fifty-six, sixty-eight, and seventy-five
of Article 10 of the Code of Public Local Laws, title "Dor-
chester County," sub-title "Cambridge," and to re-enact the
same with amendments.

Effective.


SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That section 46, as repealed and re-enacted by chapter
437 of the acts passed at the January session of 1890, also
sections 56, 68, and 75 of Article 10 of the Code of Public
Local Laws, title "Dorchester County," sub-title "Cambridge,"
be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, so as to read
as follows :

Repeal.

46. The Town Commissioners of Cambridge, in addition to
other duties provided in the chapter, shall be and are consti-
tuted a Board of Police Commissioners to serve without extra
pay, and they, or a majority of them, shall appoint, on or
about the tenth of October of each and every year, not less
than three sober, discreet and muscular men, for policemen,
whose time of service shall be four months, unless sooner die-
missed for inefficiency or misconduct, and whose pay shall not
be less than twenty-five dollars per month, nor more than
thirty dollars per month for each policeman, to be paid in cash
at the expiration of each month's service. The said Police

Board is authorized to fill all vacancies that may occur, and
they may appoint one night policeman, at a salary of twenty -
five dollars from the tenth of February to the tenth of October
of each year, and may temporarily appoint additional police-
men, at any time when in their judgment, the peace or safety
of the town demand them, and they shall equip the said police
with proper arms, and a badge of office, and to compel them
to wear uniforms; and the said Board of Police Commissioners
shall have power and authority to make and pass such by-laws,
rules, and regulations governing the police appointed by them,
as in their judgment shall best insure the efficiency of the
