allowing the free navigation of said river; the suid bridge to
be built on piles to begin at high water mark, with a draw
sufficiently wide for all vessels or boats now or hereafter nav-
igating said river.

CHAP, 31.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the property in the said
bridge when built, shall be vested in tlie said Richard Crom-
well and William Krebs, their heirs, and assigns forever as
tenants in common, and that the said Richard Cromwell, and
William Krebs, their heirs, or assigns, or other legal repre-
sentatives shall, and may demand, and icceive toll lor the
passage of the said bridge, according to the following rates,
viz; for every coach, chariot, phaeton, wagon, or other four
wheel carriage or team, fifty cents; for every chaise, gig, r art,
or other two wheel carriage, or te^m, twenty-five cents; for
every single horse and rider twelve and a half cents; for
every foot passenger six and one quarter cents; for every
head of horned cattle, horses, or muies, six and one quarter
cents; for every head of sheep, swine and so fotth, four ctnts;
and if thr said Richard Cromwell, and William Krebs, their
heirs, or assigns, or whoever hereafter shall own, or possess
said bridge, shall exact, or receive any greater rate of toll
for passing said bridge, than is herein prescribed or specified,
he X>r they shall forfeit and pay for e vel y such offetcc, the
sum of twenty dollars, one moiety to the party complaining
or who may -sue for the same, and the other moiety to the
state.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That in case the said Richard
Cromwell and William Krebs, their heirs, or assigns, should
not think proper to erect the said bridge, themselves, they
shall have full power and authority to sell, and dispose of
the points of land between which the said bridge is intended
to be bush, or either, his heirs, or aosigns may sell and dispose
of the point upon his own premises, to any person or persons,
bodies politic, or corporate, who are hereby authorised and
empowered to purchase, and hold the same, and in such
case the purchaser, or purchasers thereof, his or their heirs,
successors or assigns, or the purchaser or purchasers of
tiie land of either, his or their heirs or .assigns, with the
other his heirs or assigns, shall be, and they are hereby au-
thorised and empowered to erect, and build the said bridge,
and ask, demand and receive the like tolls as aforesaid for
the passage of the said bridge, and enjoy all the privileges
granted by this law, in the same manner as if he or they
were severally mentioned herein, and any person or per-
sons, bodies politic or corporate, who shall at any time be the
owners of said bridge when built, are hereby authorised to
demand and receive the like toll as aforesaid, for the passage
of said bridge, in the same manner as if he or they were se-
verally mentioned herein.

SEC 4. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the
owner or owners of said bridge, to cause the draw of said
bridge to be removed for the passage of any boat navigating
said river, within five minutes after its arrival at said bridges
