CHAP. 29.

shall, on conviction before a justice of the peace, be sentenc-
ed by the said justice forthwith, to receive on his or her bare
back such number of stripes as he shall order, not less than
ten, nor more than thirty-nine.

Whipping prohi-
bitted near camp.

SEC, 4. And be it enacted, That no stripes shall be inflicted
on any person, within one mile of any camp meeting.

 

CHAPTER 30.

1828

An act to authorise Joshua W. Massey, of Queen Anne's coun-
ty, to convey the Land therein mentioned.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, James Roseberry, late of Queen Anne's coun-
ty, by his last will and testament, bequeathed the whole of his
real estate to Mary Roseberry, the daughter of his brother
Samuel Roseberry, and to Robert Stevens, son of Robert and
Charliotte Stevens, with authority to his executors to sell the
same, audio divide the money equally between them, and
whereas Joshua W Massey, of the said countv, afterwards
intermarried with the aforesaid Mary Roaeberrv, and with-
the approbation and consent of Robert Stevens, the surviving
executor of the said J im es Roseberry, sold all her part of the
stud real estate, being a parcel of land called "Brotherhood,"
adjoining Church Hill, in Queen Ann's county, and received
the money for the same, Therefore,

Acts made valid.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
any deed or conveyance, already made, or hereafter to be
made, and executed by the said Joshua W. Massey, shall be
as valid, to pass all the right, title and interest in, and to the
land aforesaid, to the purchaser or purchasers, or to their
heirs, as if the same had been made and executed by the ex-
ecutors of the said James Roseberry, in persuance at" his last
will und testament.

 

CHAPTER 31.

1828.

An act to authorize the building of a Bridge across the south
branch of the Patapsco river, from a point on the land of
Richard Cromwell, to a point on the opposite shore, on the
land of William Krebs.

SECTION. 1, Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Richard Cromwell and William Krebs, their heirs,
assigns, or other legal representatives be, and they are here-
by authorised and empowered, to build a bridge at their own
proper cost, and expence, over the south branch of the Pataps-
co river, from a point on the land of Richard Cromwell, to
a point on the opposite shore, on the land of William Krebs,
the said bridge to be built of good and substantial materials,
with a railing on each side thereof, and a draw in said bridge,
