CHAPTER 165.

An act to authorise Lucy T. Gwynn, of Frederick county, to
remove negro James into this state.

1822

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Lucy T, Gwynn, of Frederick county, be, and 'she
is hereby authorised, at any time after the passage of this act,
to remove and bring into this state, a certain negro slave
named James, and that the removal of the said slave to
this state, shall not in any manner entitle him to his free-
dom: Provided, That the said slave when removed agreeably
to the provisions of this act, shall be registered among the re-
cords of Frederick county court, within three months after
his removal.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act con-
tained, shall be construed to authorise a disposition of said
slave, except in case of disposition by last will and testament,
and dispositions by law for bona fide debts, or consequent upon
intestacy, in less than three years after the passage of this act,

An act for the relief of Eli Rench, of Washington County.

Passed Feb'ry 23,

1818

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That Eli
Rench,a native oi Washington county, and who has been absent
for a short period from the state, be, and he is hereby autho-
rised and enabled to avail himself of all the benefits and privi-
leges of the insolvent laws of Maryland, in the same manner
as though he were a citizen of the state of Maryland, and that
the court or judge, as the case may be, to whom any applica-
tion may be prefered for the benefit of the insolvent laws of
this state by the said Eli Rench, be, and they are hereby au-
rised and required to admit the said Eli Rench to all those
benefits, without requiring at his hands any proof of citizen-
ship or previous residence within the state of Maryland, or
without requiring of him any other proofs, acts and perform-
ance, than those which are necessary on the part of a citizen
of the state of Maryland, in order to the obtaining the benefit
