CHAPTER 153.
A supplement to an act, entitled) an act to promote education
in Frederick, passed at the present session-
|
Sixth substituted

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the word fifth, in the second line of the eighth sec-
tion of the law to which this is a supplement, be, and the same
is hereby stricken out, and the said law shall be construed to
take effect and operate as if the word sixth had been inserted
originally in its stead.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the superintendants of free,
schools in Frederick shall have power to determine what
charge, if any, should be made by the teachers of St, Johns
Benevolent school for the education of, or furnishing station-
ary for the pupils therein, and pay the same from the free
school fund under their control, as is directed in reference to
other free schools of Frederick in the original law to which,
this is a supplement.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That until the corporate authori-
ties of Frederick shall levy the necessary taxes, and carry
into effect the original law to which this is a supplement, the
levy court of Frederic county be, and they are hereby requir-
ed to pay over to the president and directors of the Frederick
free school and to the pastor of St. Johns church, in Frede-
ricktown, for the use of St. Johns benevolent school, the
amount of the Frederick county school- fund directed to be
paid for the use of said schools respectively, by an act passed,
at December session, eighteen hundred and twenty-five
chapter seventy-two.

An act to authorise the treasurer of the Western Shore to borrow
a sum of money for the improvement of the Penitentiary.
|
Preamble
|
WHEREAS, by an act passed at the present session of the
General Assembly entiiled a further additional supplement to
an act concealing crimes and punishments, the directors of
the penitentiary are authorised and empowered to purchase
as much ground adjacent thereto as may be necessary to en-
large the present yard thereof and whereas, it is intended
to relieve the state from any farther expense on account of
the penitentiary, by requiring the directors to defray the same
out of the nett profits of the institution; and whereas it is
possible there may be a deficiency in the funds of the peni-
tentiary to meet those objects: Therefore,

SECTION 1. Be h enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the treasurer of the Western Shore be, and he is
hereby authorised and empowered to borrow, on the credit of
the state, a sum of money not exceeding eight thousand dol-
lars, on the same terms, and under the same restrictions and
limitations as are prescribed by the fourth section of an act,
