18 TWENTY-EIGHTH ANNUAL REPORT
VISITS AND VISITORS
Visits.
The Archivist attended a meeting of the Early American Sheet
Music Collectors Association July 15, 1962. This meeting was held at
the home of Mr. Lester Levy in Pikesville. The Hall of Records had
previously borrowed from Mr. Levy's fine collection a number of Civil
War items for an exhibit. We are especially interested in his Mary-
landiana.
There were several meetings during the year of the Advisory
Committee for the Study of State Archival Programs, of which the
Archivist is Chairman. An especially important one was held July 30,
1962 at the Cosmos Club in Washington.
Meetings of the Maryland Historical Trust were held quarterly.
The Archivist attended the meeting held on September 6 at Hampton
House. After the meeting he inspected the beautiful property of Mr.
Harvey Ladew which is being offered under certain conditions to the
State. The Archivist also attended the meeting held November 1, at
the Maryland Inn in Annapolis and May 16, 1963, at Smallwood's
Retreat in Charles County. On September 13, 1962, the Archivist
accompanied by Mr. Skordas attended the rededication of the War
Correspondents' Arch and the unveiling of the plans for the News-
paper Hall of Fame at Gathland State Park, Maryland, sponsored by
the Maryland-Delaware Press Association.
On April 25, 1963, Dr. Radoff attended an informal reception at
the Maryland and Rare Books Room of the McKeldin Library at the
University of Maryland, College Park. On May 9, the Archivist met
with Mrs. Dolores Renze, Archivist of Colorado and Secretary of the
Society of American Archivists, and Mr. Leon DeValinger, President
of the Society, to discuss affairs of the S.A.A. This meeting was held in
Washington and a subsequent one with Mr. DeValinger was held
June 13, in Dover.
The Archivist was honored to serve on the examining panel for a
student in the History Department of Maryland. The student who had
done much of his dissertation at the Hall of Records passed his orals
June 20, 1963.
Mr. Skordas attended the Spring meeting of the Council of the
Society of American Archivists held in Washington May 10, 1963. And
