PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
THE SOCIETY OF AMERICAN ARCHIVISTS
The annual meeting of The Society of American Archivists, held
at Philadelphia, October 6-9, 1959, was attended by the Archivist, Mr.
Skordas, Mr. Beach and Mr. White. We are pleased to report that Mr.
Skordas was elected a Fellow of The Society at this meeting.
The Archivist continued, this year, as a member of the Committee
on Professional Standards and Training and of the Committee on
Federal-State Relations. He was appointed to membership in the Long-
Range Planning Committee and he served also on the Nominating
Committee for the 1960 annual meeting.
Mr. Skordas continued as chairman of the Committee on Preser-
vation Methods and as a member of the State Records Committee. Mr.
Beach was a member of the Committee on Records Management.
LOCAL HISTORICAL GROUPS
Mr. Weatherly spoke at the initial meeting of the Worcester
County Historical Association, September 16, 1959.
Mr. Skordas represented the Hall of Records at the 300th anni-
versary of the official entry to Maryland of Augustine Herman, which
was celebrated October 18, 1959, by the Augustine Herman Czech
American Historical Society with a banquet and special program. Mr.
Skordas spoke briefly.
On February 21, 1960, the Archivist attended the 58th Annual
Meeting and Luncheon of the American Jewish Historical Society which
was held at Baltimore.
The Assistant Archivist addressed the Wicomico County Histori-
cal Society on "The Local Records of the First Judicial Circuit," March
7, 1960. Mrs. Clark described to this group our plans for revising the
Maryland Guide.
At the organizational meeting of the Queen Anne's County His-
torical Society held in Centreville, March 28, 1960, the Archivist de-
scribed to the members the many facilities of the Hall of Records at
their disposal, assuring them of our desire to assist this new group in
any way possible.
