AIDS TO RESEARCH
PUBLICATIONS
The seventh Publication in our series Calendar of Maryland State
Papers, The Red Boo\s Part I, appeared December 30, 1950. As you will
recall, we have for some years been engaged in preparing calendars for
the fine collection of state papers in our custody known as the "Rainbow
Series" because of the different colors of the subseries bindings. We have
now completed the "Black Books," the "Brown Books" and the "Blue
Books." Only the "Red Books" remain to be done and this first volume
covers about a third of that series. A second volume is now in preparation,
and we hope that it will be finished during the present fiscal year. Reviews
of the first "Red Books" volume—all favorable—have appeared in the
interested scholarly journals as follows:
Arthur Pierce Middleton, William And Mary Quarterly, July 1951,
471-472.
Philip C. Brooks, American Historical Review, July 1951, 9994,000.
Francis L. Berkeley, Jr., American Archivist, July 1951, 265-266.
Charles B. Clark, Journal of Southern History, August 1951, 422-423.
Leon DeValinger, Jr., Maryland Historical Magazine, September 1951,
217-218.
The Fifteenth Annual Report of the Archivist appeared shortly after
the close of the fiscal year 1950. These reports are usually included among
our new finding aids because they contain new accessions, lists of finding
aids added during the course of the year, and other information useful to
researchers. This report was reviewed in the American Archivist for July
1951 (266-267) by Harry L. Coles, Jr.
Index Holdings Maryland Hall of Records, Bulletin No. 9, was issued
in mimeograph form in June 1951. It superseded a similar publication,
