records. Since the Register of Wills had already purchased a microfilm
reader, the films are useful to him and he is not burdened with care of
the original records which are bulky, in need of repair and which occupy
a great deal of space in his already overcrowded vaults. It is our hope that
this exchange will prove mutually profitable and will lead ultimately to a
concentration of all but the most recent records in the vaults of the Hall
of Records or in some other State-controlled central repository where their
care and storage should be more economical than in the relatively insecure
vaults of the county courthouses. Such a concentration of records might
discourage the extremely costly courthouse enlargements which serve for
the most part only as storage places for unnecessary records.
