ARCHIVIST OF THE HALL OF RECORDS

It is gratifying to report that there were fewer personnel changes at
the Hall of Records during the past fiscal year than at any time since the
beginning of the war. This stability may be ascribed to two causes: during
the past fiscal year, and immediately before July 1, 1948, reclassifications
and increases in salary scale have finally brought the Hall of Records to
the point where its salaries are approximately equal to those of other State
agencies; the demand for clerical workers in Washington and at the various
Federal establishments in and near Annapolis has lessened appreciably.

Changes in personnel were as follows:

Record Cataloguer and Indexer I: At the beginning of the fiscal year this
position was held by Miss Jean R. McNiece, who resigned August 15,
1948, to accept a similar post in the manuscript division of the New
York Public Library. This vacancy was filled September 1 by Miss Beryl
E. Gardner.

Senior Stenographer: Mrs. Angelyn W. Parks resigned August 15, 1948,
shortly after her marriage; she was succeeded on September 1 by Miss
Anne Douglas Valk. Miss Valk resigned February 28, 1949, in order
to accept a position offered to her by the Maryland Court of Appeals.
Miss Valk's place was filled by Mrs. Flora M. Jones, March 1, 1949.

Secretary Stenographer: Mrs. Judith C. Palmquist resigned at the end of
the last day of the fiscal year, June 30, 1949. Her place was taken by
Miss Frances W. Hoot.

Editorial Assistant II: In order to assist in indexing and proofreading the
Maryland Manual, Miss Lois Green was employed temporarily from
July 1, 1948, to September 15, 1948.
