and 174, and to follow immediately after Section 172 of said
Article, abolishing the State Publicity Commission and creat-
ing the Department of Information and providing for the conv-
pensation and expenses of said Department.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 173 and 174 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Governor—Executive and Ad-
ministrative Departments", sub-title "State Publicity Commis-
sion", be and the same are hereby repealed.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That two new sections
are hereby added to the Code of Public General Laws of Mary-
land (1939 Edition), title "Governor—Executive and Adminis-
trative Departments", sub-title "Department of Information",
said new sections to be known as Sections 173 and 174, to follow
immediately after Section 172 of said Article, and to read as
follows:
DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION
173. There is hereby created a Department to be known as
the Department of Information of the State of Maryland. The
Governor is hereby authorised to appoint a suitable person who
shall be known as the Director of said Department, whose duties
it shall be to carry out the objectives and purposes provided
herein. The Director of said Department is authorized to em-
ploy, within the limitations prescribed in the budget and with the
consent of the Governor, such other person or persons as may be
necessary to perform the duties of said Department.
174. (a) It shall be the duty of the Department of Informa-
tion to collect information and material relating to the State of
Maryland from the several State agencies and other public and
private organisations where such information is available; to
assemble this information and material for distribution to inter'
ested persons and organisations and to otherwise disseminate this
information and material to the public in general by means of
maps, films, photographs, posters, pamphlets, and press and radio
releases, and in such other manner and by such other medium as
the Department deems advisable; to further disseminate this infor-
