before; the number of pages in the county land record series was less than
last year, but this was due to the fact that most of the volumes were of
large format of the late eighteenth century so that each page had to be
done separately, whereas during the previous year there were many seven-
teenth century books so small that if they were taken apart two pages
could be taken in one exposure.
