It is known that he made another unsuccessful
attempt to print in Baltimore.99 His name occurs in
one edition of the Baltimore Directory,100 proving
that he maintained a separate printing establishment
on East Street, Baltimore, in 1799. No book, pamphlet
or broadside issue of his press, for this later period
of his Baltimore activities, has survived. The Enoch
Pratt Free Library has recently (1942) come into the
possession of a form which may be an issue from his
Baltimore press in, or after, 1797.
It is an arbitration form, but has no city, state,
or date printed upon it. Prom its similarity to anoth-
er arbitration form used in Maryland about this time,101
it could possibly have been used legally in the state.
The imprint is placed above the body of the form, and
reads simple "Printed by E. Story, near to the Court
Rouse." The only indication of the date is found in
the watermark, "W. Llgar, 1797." All attempts to trace
"W. Elgar", undoubtedly a papennaker, have failed.
Story's address, as given in the Baltimore Directory
for 1799, East Street, could easily have been described
