1833.

tract between Lewis Porter and Sophia Porter, is hereby de-
clared to be annulled and destroyed, and the authority, power
and control, of the said Lewis Porter, over and to the person
and property of Sophia Porter his wife, shall henceforth cease
and determine, and all the rights which the said Lewis Porter
acquired by the said marriage contract, and all liabilities for the
debts of his said wife arising from the said marriage, shall hence-
forth utterly cease and determine; and the said Sophia Porter is
hereby declared to be divorced from her husband Lewis Porter,
as entirely, and to as full extent, as if the said Lewis Porter
were dead, or as if she, the said Sophia Porter, had never been
joined in matrimony with him.

CHAP. 92.

2. And be it enacted, That the said Sophia Porter shall be
and she is hereby declared capable to have, hold, take, re-
ceive, sue for and recover, by compromise, suit or suits in law
or equity, property of any kind, whether real, personal or mix-
ed, in as full and ample a manner as if she were, and had always
been, a feme sole, and to hold, use and enjoy the same, for her
own use and benefit, and the same to dispose of according to her
will and pleasure, without the let, hindrance, molestation, inter-
ference or consent, of her husband Lewis Porter, in as full and
ample manner as if she were, and always had been, a feme sole
and may in her own name sue and be sued at law and in equity.

3. And be it enacted, That the name of the said Sophia
Porter is hereby changed and altered unto the name of Sophia
Hooker, and she shall at all times hereafter be called and known
by, and hold and use the name of, Hooker only, and by such
name shall sue and be sued in any court of law or equity.

4. And be it enacted, That all securities, promises, contracts,
assurances, deeds, and lawful acts whatsoever, hereafter to be
made and done by and to the said Sophia Porter, by the name of
Sophia Hooker, shall be of the same force, validity and effect,
and of equal avail, to all intents and purposes, as if the name of
Sophia Hooker had been the true and proper name of the said
Sophia Porter from her birth, any law or custom to the contrary
notwithstanding.

5. And be it enacted, That the said Sophia Porter shall be,
and she is hereby declared to be, entitled to the care, custody
and guardianship of any and every child or children of the said
marriage, without the control in any manner of the said Lewis
Porter.

An Act to divorce James Bosworth, and Mary Amanda his wife, of the City
of Baltimore.

Passed Feb 20,1927

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the marriage between James Bosworth, of the city of Bal-
timore, and Mary Amanda, the infant daughter of Alexander
Sandford, of the same place, under the age of sixteen, lately so-
lemnized without the consent or knowledge of her said parent,
contrary to the provisions of the act of February session 1777,
chapter 12, be and the same is from henceforth and forever ab-
solutely annulled and declared to be void ab initio, to all intents
and purposes, as if the same had never been solemnized, and
