by himself or themselves, or by any other person or persons,
any office, or other place, for selling any ticket or tickets, partJ
or parts of tickets, or for registering the number or numbers of
any ticket or tickets, part or parts of tickets, in any public or
private lottery, not authorized by the laws of this state.

2. And be it enacted, That before any person or persons
shall open, set up, exercise or keep, by himself or themselves,
or by any other person or persons, any office, or other place,
for selling any ticket or tickets, or for registering the number
or numbers of any ticket in any lottery authorised by the laws
of this state, he shall first obtain a license from the county court
where such person resides, and if such person resides in the
city of Baltimore, then from the city court of Baltimore.

3, And be it enacted. That before any such license shall be
granted, the person or persons applying for the same in the
city of Baltimore, shall pay to the clerk of the Baltimore city
court the sum of five hundred dollars, for the use of the state,
and if elsewhere, then he, she or they, shall pay to the clerk
of the county where he, she or they, shall reside, the sum of
two hundred dollars for the use of the state, which said license
shall be limited to one year only from the date thereof; and the
clerk of the city or county court, as the case may be, shall be
authorised to demand and receive, for each and every license
issued by him under this law, from the person or persons re-
ceiving the same, the sum of two dollars to his own use, in
full of all compensation or claim for his agency concerning the
said license, or the money received therefor, for the use of the

state.

4. And be it enacted, That before any such license shall be
granted, the person or persons applying for the same, shall give
bond to the state of Maryland, with security, to be approved
of by the clerk of the city or county court, as the case may be,
in the penal sum of five thousand dollars, conditioned that he,
she or they, as the case may be, will not be concerned in any-
wise, directly or indirectly, in buying or selling, ordering or
supplying, in any manner whatsoever, of any ticket, or any
part of any ticket, in any lottery not authorised by the laws of
this state, and that he, she or they, as the case may be, will, in
all matters relating to the Said license, or the said bond, faith-
fully observe and conform to the laws of this state, respecting
lotteries, or lottery tickets; which said bond shall be recorded
amongst the records of the county or city court, as the case
may be, and an office copy thereof from either cf the said
courts, under the seal of such court, shall be, to all intents and
purposes, as available evidence of its execution in all courts of
justice in this state, as the original, if produced and proved,
would be.

5. And be if enacted, That if any person or persons shall
contravene or violate the provisions of this act, or any of them,
he, she or they, as the case may be, shall forfeit and pay for
each and every such offence a sum not less than fire hundred,
nor more than two thousand dollars, to be recovered by indict-
ment or action of debt, in any court having jurisdiction there-
