LAWS OF MARYLAND

CHAP. 65.

the public ground in the town of Prince Frederick, in Calvert
county, of brick or stone, and wooden and other materials, and
of such size and dimensions as in their judgment, or in that of
a majority of them, may be best calculated to promote the com-
fort, and prevent the escape of the prisoners, who may be com-
mitted thereto, which, when completed, shall by the persons
aforesaid, or a majority of them, be put into the custody and
possession of the sheriff of the county aforesaid, for the time
being, and the same shall so remain and continue in the custody
and possession of such sheriff, and his successors, as a public

prison for said county; Provided, that the cost of the said pri-
son shall not exceed the sum of three thousand dollars current
money.

Levy authorised

2. And be it enacted, That the levy court of Calvert couru-
ty, for the time being, are hereby authorised and required, to
impose on the assessable property of the said county, the sum
of three thousand dollars current money, in three equal annu-
al assessments, together with an allowance not exceeding six
per cent for collection, which sum so assessed, shall be collect-
ed by the collector of the said county, for the time being, as
other county taxes are collected, and when so collected shall be
paid by such collector to the said Richard Grahame, Daniel
Kent, John Sparrow, Thomas C. Gantt and John T. Bond, of
a majority of them, to be by them applied to the purchasing of
materials and erecting the said prison.

Vacancies how to
be supplied

3. And be it enacted. That in case any of the persons here-
in named, and hereby empowered to cause the said prison to be
erected, shall refuse, die, remove or become incapable to act,
the residue, or a majority of them, shall fill up the vacancy or
vacancies, and so as often as may be to carry this act into effect.

Fund of collector
to be liable

4. And be it enacted, That the bond of the collector of
Calvert county, for the time being, who may be entrusted with
the collection of the money aforesaid, or any part thereof, shall
be liable in the same manner, and to the like extent, as for the
collection of county taxes in the safd county.

Acts repealed

5. And be it enacted, That all acts or parts of acts repug-
nant hereto, or inconsistent herewith, are hereby repealed and
abrogated..

CHAP. LXVI.
An Act to divorce William Scott and Anne Maria Scott, of the City of Bal,
timore.

Divorce granted

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the marriage of the said William Scott, and Anne Maria
Scott, of the city of Baltimore, heretofore solemnized, be and
the same is hereby declared to be absolutely and to all intents
land purposes null and void ; and the said William Seott and
Anne Maria Scott are declared to be divorced a vinculo ma-
trimonii.
