CHAP. CLXI.
A Further Additional Supplement to the Act, entitled, An Act for the better
regulation of Apprentices.
WHEREAS it has been represented to this general assembly,
that the third section of the act to which this is a supplement, is
in a great degree, if not entirely, inoperative in the city of Balti-
more, owing in part to the want of some designated place which
the indigent children therein mentioned may be safely kept till
bound out as apprentices, but chiefly to the difficulty expe-
rienced by the orphans court to find suitable masters for them,
and that the trustees of the poor of Baltimore city and county, on
the contrary, have more applications for such children as appren-
tices than they can supply: And whereas, in order to promote
the humane object contemplated by the said act to which this is
a supplement, it is expedient to designate a place for the recep-
tion of said children when taken up, and to extend the powers
vested in the justices of the peace, to the trustees and ward and
district managers of the poor in the city and county of Balti-
more;

the trustees of the poor of Baltimore city and county, the ward
managers of the poor in the city of Baltimore, and the district

individually have and exercise the power and authority to
arrest, or cause to be arrested, and taken up, either in the city or
county of Baltimore, any child or children who is or are desti-
tute or suffering for want of support, or may be found begging a-
bout the streets of the city of Baltimore, and the child or children
of beggars, and to send them, at the expense of the city or coun-
ty, as the case may be, to the poor-house of Baltimore county,
there to be supported till they can be bound apprentices, either
to farmers, mechanics or other suitable persons, at the discretion
of the trustees, and the said trustees are hereby invested with as
full powers in relation to the children above mentioned, as they
now possess and exercise in regard to other children under their
care.
