So the amendment was rejected.

Mr. Kessler moved to amend by inserting, "provided that
their compensation shall not exceed more than one thousand
dollars;"

Which was adopted.

The question then recurred upon the adoption of the mes-
sage as amended,
When it was adopted, and sent to the Senate.

Mr. Morgan, from the committee on Claims, reported fa-
vorably upon the bill entitled, an act appropriating a sum of
money to pay Samuel J. Pentz, owner of the steamer Pio-
neer, William H. Hamilton, John Bird, J. C. Bush, Jas.
Cook, William Lynch, John Bradshaw, E. S. Thomas and
Edwin Street;

Which was read the second, and by special order, the third
time, and rejected by yeas and says, as follow:
