the two Houses adjourn on Friday next, the 17th inst., at
the hour of 2 o'clock, on that day, that the two Houses ad-
journ to meet again in this place, on the ————day of————
next, at the hour of 2 o'clock, P. M. ;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Landing proposed the following :

Resolved, By the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Adjutant General furnish to Capt. H. H. Houston, of the
Newton Atlantic Volunteers, forty Minnie rifles with their
accoutrements, upon his giving bond to the State of Mary-
land, with security for their safe keeping, and return accord-
ing to law ; and if no rifles can be obtained, then their place
to be supplied by muskets ;

Which was read the first time.
On motion of Mr. Scott,

Leave was granted the Baltimore city delegation to bring
in a joint resolution for the appointment of Commissioners to
contract for the manufacturing and purchase, and the repair-
ing of arms for this State, to be held subject to the order of
he General Assembly of Maryland.
On motion of Mr. Legg,

Leave was granted to the Judiciary Committee to intro-
duce a bill to amend Article XVII, Section 75, of the Code
of Public Local Laws, relative to the pay of the Clerk of
Queen Anne's county.

Mr. Long, chairman of the committee on Ways and Means,
made a favorable report upon the bill entitled, an act making
an appropriation for the Maryland penitentiary ;

Which was read the first, and by special order the second
and third time, and passed by yeas and nays as follow :
