Which was sustained, and the bill referred to the commit-
tee on the Judiciary.
On motion of Mr. Scott,
Leave was granted to the Judiciary Committee to bring in
a bill to be entitled an act to amend the IVth Article of the
Code of Public Local Laws, by adding thereto a section, vest-
ing in the Board of Police of the City of Baltimore all the
authority in said city, now vested in a single Magistrate and
Constable, under the provisions of the LXVIth Article of the
Code of General Public Laws, in regard to free negroes and
mulattoes.
Mr. Gordon offered the following :
Ordered; That the Governor be and he is hereby requested
to furnish to this House, a copy of any further communica-
tions that he may have received in relation to the subject of
his message, communicating to this House the proceedings
of the meeting at Weverton;
Which was adopted.
Mr. Burgess offered the following:
Ordered, That hereafter, no bill of a general character
shall be read the second time until said bill shall have been
peinted and laid on the desks of members ;
Which was adopted.
The Secretary of the Senate returned the bill entitled, an
act to amend the 17th, 19th, 26th, 27th and 29th sections
of Article LIV of the Code of Public General Laws, relating
to the land office.

Mr. Brune asked leave to introduce a bill to amend the
939th section af the IVth Article of the Code of Public Local
Laws, by increasing the amount of " Water Stock'' thereby
authorized to be issued by the mayor and City Council of
Baltimore, to three millions five hundred thousand dollars,
in all; instead of three millions dollars as by said section
provided; which,
On motion of Mr. Gordon,
Was laid upon the table.
