The Secretary of the Senate returned the resolutions in re-
lation to the adjournment of the Legislature;

Endorsed "passed by yeas and nays."

Mr. Dennis, of Somerset, offered the following:

Resolved, That this House has heard with sincere regret,
the announcement of the death of J. H. W. Stanford, late a
member of this House, from Somerset county, and that we
tender to the relatives of the deceased the assurance of our
sympathy under the bereavement they have been called to
sustain.

Resolved, That the Clerk of this House be directed to trans-
mit to the family of the deceased a certified copy of these
resolutions.

Resolved, That in token of respect for the memory of the
deceased, the House do now adjourn.

Which were adopted;

And the House at 1 o'clock adjourned.

WEDNESDAY, August 7, 1861.

The House met and was opened with prayer by the Rev.
Mr. Ross.

Present at the call of the roll the following members:
