Maryland, beyond an interest of one-third in the stock of the
Washington branch road, receives one-fifth of the gross re-
ceipts for travel on that branch, holds an interest in the divi-
dends and profits of the main stem, upon an investment of
very nearly 4,000,000 dollars. The supplement under re-
view would enable parties individual and corporate, unknown
to the State, and far more than probable, non residents, by
a comparatively trifling expenditure, to take all the travel of
the North and North-West to the city of Washington, which
the Balt, and Ohio K E.Company has by a vast expenditure
of time and capital hitherto secured, and the benefit from,
which lias been distributed to the State Treasury and her
people, to whom it almost exclusively belongs.

The committee therefore report unfavorably to the passage
of the bill.
