On motion of Mr. Wallis,

The same was referred to the committee on Federal Rela-
tions.

Also the following:

STATE OF MARYLAND,

EXECUTIVE CHAMBER,
Frederick City, June 5, 1861.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :

In response to your order of this date, requesting me to
inform you "what action I have taken, if any, to protect the
citizens of the State, their person and property," which re-
quest is prefaced by indefinite allegations that citizens of
Maryland have been arrested without color of, and in oppo-
sition to the established law of the United States and of this
State, and have been carried by force into a neighboring
State by troops in arms, and acting entirely under military
and in disregard to all civil authority, &c., &c., I have to
say: that I have received no official information of the arrests
poken of in your order, nor has any complaint or demand
or my interference been made to me by any person claiming
to have been arrested in the manner alleged in your order.

As a matter of course, therefore, I have taken no action in
the premises.

Which was read and referred to the committee on Federal
Relations.

Mr. Wootten presented the petition of sundry citizens of
Prince George's county, asking a repeal of the law authoriz-
ing a sale of State tobacco warehouses; .

Which was read and referred to the select committee.

On motion of Mr. Dennis, of Somerset,

Leave was granted to the Somerset delegation to report a
bill to amend section 65 of Code of Public Local L aws of
Somerset county relating to justices of the peace and con-
stables.

On motion of Mr. Stanford,

Leave was granted to the Somerset delegation to report a
bill giving the assent of the Legislature of this State to a be-
