Mr. Smith, from a select committee, reported favorably on the
following.

A bill, entitled, An act for the relief of Harriet Porter and
Miranda Porter, of Carroll county;

Which was read the first time.
On motion of Mr. McKaig,

A bill, entitled, An act to provide for the payment of a sum of
money to Captain Gabiiel Becklie, of the United Guards of Fred-
erick county, for services rendered under order of the Governor,

Was taken up, and recommitted to the Committee on Militia.
On motion of Mr. Franklin,

Ordered, That the Committee on Claims allow Thomas A.
Mitchell, Sergeant-at-Arms, two dollars per day for his services
in taking care of the desks of Senators, and in discharging
other duties during the recesses of the Legislature, in accordance
with an order of the Senate, adopted the 11th day of May, 1861.

The Senate adjourned.

SATURDAY, August 3, 1861.

Mr. Goldsborough, of Talbot, presented the memorial of Sam'1
T. Hopkins and John Donnovan;

Which was read.
