1861.] Of THE SENATE, 23

Mr. Stone submitted the following resolutions:

Whereas, The late deplorable events that occurred in the city
ofBaitimore, were caused by a misapprehension of the object of
the passage of the troops over the soil of Maryland ;

And Whereas, That object was for the protection of our Na-
tional Capital, in the preservation of which our State is more
deeply interest than' any other, and not as many supposed for
the purpose of attacking any of our sister States, therefore

Se it Resolved, By the Senate of Maryland, That the passage
of troops over ihe soil of Maryland for the protection of the Na-
tional Capital should not be considered an act of aggression on
the part of the General Government.

And be it further Resolved, That if any more "troops than
those now within the borders of the State should be necessary
for the protection of our Capital, that we recommend they be
transported by the different railroad companies over their roads.

And, be it further Resolved, That the Governor be requested to
do, what, in his judgment, may seem best calculated to produce
harmony, and restore the travel on the different railroads to and
rom Baltimore.
