1700, 1701-1704 (Aggrievances 1). LOCAL OF-
FICES: justice, Calvert County, 1694, Prince
George's County, 1695/96-1704 (quorum); cor-
oner, Prince George's County, 1696. MILITARY
SERVICE: captain, 1695/96. STANDS ON PUBLIC/PRI-
VATE ISSUES, charged with having Jacobite sym-
pathies, 1698. WEALTH DURING LIFETIME. LAND AT

FIRST ELECTION 783 acres in 1696. WEALTH AT
DEATH. DIED: administration bond filed on May
23, 1705, in Prince George's County. PERSONAL
PROPERTY: TEV, £1,915.0.8 (including 79 oz. plate,
19 slaves, books, and one-sixteenth ownership in
the ship Samuel); FB, £1,792.9.1. LAND: at least
1,025 acres.

WILDE, ABRAHAM (?-by 1701). IMMIGRATED.
in 1670. RESIDED: in Baltimore (later became Ce-
cil) County; returned to England, ca. 1676. MAR-
RIED Mary, who subsequently married by Novem-
ber 1701 John Silk of London, a pewterer.
CHILDREN. SON. Abraham (?-1695). PRIVATE CA-
REER. EDUCATION: literate. RELIGIOUS AFFILIA-
TION: probably Protestant. SOCIAL STATUS AND
ACTIVITIES: remained active in the Maryland to-
bacco trade after his return to England. OCCU-
PATIONAL PROFILE planter; merchant of Bristol,
by 1684; merchant of London, 1690; master of
the ship Diligence, of London, 1691. PUBLIC CA-
REER. LEGISLATIVE SERVICE: Lower House, Cecil

County, 1674/75 (elected to the 4th session of the
1671-1674 Assembly). LOCAL OFFICE: justice.
Baltimore County, 1672-1674, Cecil County,
1674-1676. STANDS ON PUBLIC/PRIVATE ISSUES:
testified in London for Lord Baltimore against
the Protestant Associators, 1690. WEALTH DURING

LIFETIME. LAND AT FIRST ELECTION: 1,600 acres

in Baltimore (later became Cecil) County. SIG-
NIFICANT CHANGES IN LAND BETWEEN FIRST ELEC-
TION AND DEATH: acquired 225 acres in Cecil

County. WEALTH AT DEATH. DIED: between Au-

gust 3, 1695, when he administered his son's es-
tate, and November 20, 1701, probably in Step-
ney Parish, Middlesex County, England. LAND:
1,825 acres in Cecil County.

WILKINSON, THOMAS(1700/l-ca. 1758). BORN:
on January 8, 1700/1, in England; baptized on
January 29, 1700/1 at Armley (now Leeds), York-
shire; fourth son. IMMIGRATED: in 1716 with his
mother, brothers, and sisters. RESIDED: probably
at "Barbadoes Hall." a 350-acre plantation at
the head of the Corsica River, Queen Anne's

County. FAMILY BACKGROUND. FATHER: Rev.

Christopher Wilkinson (1663-1729), of "Horton
Hall," Horton-in-Craven, Yorkshire, England,
who arrived in Maryland ca. 1711, and who served
as rector of All Hallows Parish, Somerset County,
1711-1713, and of St. Paul's Parish, Queen Anne's
County, 1713-1729. MOTHER. Frances Hutchin-
son (1671-by 1728), of Morland, Westmorland,
England. STEPMOTHER: Sibilla Davis of Talbot
County. She subsequently married by 1735 Rev.
William Beckett of Lewes, Delaware. BROTHERS:
John (1694/95-?); Richard Lewis (1696-1728),
who married Elizabeth (last name unknown);
Christopher, Jr. (ca. 1698/99-ca. 1748/49), who
married Elizabeth, widow of Joseph Earle (?-
1740), of Queen Anne's County; and Rev. John
Atkinson (1705-1759), who remained in Eng-
land. SISTERS: Ann (ca. 1707/8-?), who married
(first name unknown) Coward; Elizabeth (1710-
?), who married William Carmichael. MARRIED
Elizabeth, daughter of John Coursey (?-1713) of
Queen Anne's County, and wife Mary Turbutt.
Elizabeth was the stepdaughter of Thomas Hyn-
son Wright (1688-1747); granddaughter of Henry
Coursey (ca. 1629-1695); niece of Henry Coursey
(1662-1707); Foster Turbutt (1679-1720/21); and
William Turbutt (1683/84-1739). Her brothers were
John, who married Elizabeth Macklin; Thomas,
who married Mary Wickes. Her half brothers were
Nathan Samuel Turbutt Wright (?-1792); Thomas
Wright (?-ca. 1784). Her sister was Mary, who
married Solomon Wright (?-1729). Her half sis-
ters were Mary Ann Wright (?-1747), who mar-
ried William Hopper (1707-1772); Anne Wright
(?-by 1754), who married Edward Oldham (1709-
1773). Her first cousins were Elizabeth Coursey,
who married William Cumming (ca. 1696-1752);
Sarah Turbutt (1706-1773), who married Nicho-
las Goldsborough (ca. 1689-1766); Elizabeth Tur-
butt (ca. 1708-?), who married in 1724 Tench
Francis (1701-1758); Ann Turbutt (1715-1766),
who married John Goldsborough (1711-1778);
Mary Lowe (?-by 1739), who married Edward
Oldham (1709-1773); Anna Maria Turbutt (?-
by 1749), who married Edward Tilghman (1713-
1785); and Elizabeth Turbutt (?-ca. 1760), who
married by 1742 Thomas Harris (?-1760). Her
nephews were Solomon Wright (?-1792); Na-
thaniel Wright (?-1770), a possible legislator.
CHILDREN. SONS: Thomas, Jr. (ca. 1730-by 1793),
of Queen Anne's County, mariner; John (ca. 1732-
1758); and Christopher (ca. 1734/35-1764).
DAUGHTERS: Ann; Margaret (?-1769); Frances;
Elizabeth (?-1796), who married Thomas Wil-
liams (?-1789), a shipowner of Currituck County,
