CHAPTER 449.

AN ACT to provide for the refunding at a
lower rate of interest, exchange or redemp-
tion of certain debts of this State, which
are now payable or which will become pay-
able in the year eighteen hundred and eigh-
ty-seven.

WHEREAS the bonds or certificates of indebt-
edness of this State, to the amount of one

hundred thousand dollars, issued under the
act of eighteen hundred and seventy, chapter
four hundred and twenty-two, are now due;
and

WHEREAS bonds or certificates of indebted-
ness of this State, to the amount of five hun-
dred and twenty-eight thousand three hundred

and fifty-five dollars, issued under the act of
eighteen hundred and seventy, chapter two
hundred and seventy-five, are also now due ;

WHEREAS bonds or certificates of indebted-
ness of this State, to the amount of one mil-

lion two hundred and sixty-eight thousand and
lit'ty dollars and ten cents, issued under the
act of eighteen hundred and seventy-two, chap-
ter three hundred and sixty-six!, will become
due in the year eighteen hundred and eighty-
seven; and

WHEREAS said bonds or certificates of in-
debtedness issued under the acts aforesaid
amount in the aggregate to one million eight
hundred and ninety-six thousand four-hundred

and nine dollars and ten cents, and it is desir-
able to provide for a renewal of said several
debts at a lower rate of interest in cases where
the holders of any bonds or certificates of in-
debtedness may desire to renew the same, and
to take up such part of the said respective
debts as may not be so renewed; therefore,
