Sanitary Offi-
cer.

missioners of Baltimore county be and they
are hereby authorized and directed to annually
appoint one Sanitary Commissioner, a resident
of Catonsville or vicinity, who shall act as
Sanitary Officer for Catonsville and vicinity ;
and the said County Commissioners shall have
the power to remove the said sanitary officer
upon a failure or neglect to perform the duties
hereinafter imposed, and with power to fill

any vacancy that may occur from time to time
in said office; and said sanitary officer shall
be entitled to receive from the County Com-
missioners the sum of three hundred dollars
annually, payable in quarterly installments.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said sani-
tary officer so appointed by said County Com-
missioners shall have the general care of the
sanitary interest of the residents of Catons-
ville and its vicinity; he shall make sanitary
investigations and inquiries respecting the
cause of disease, and especially epidemics;
the cause of mortalities; he shall inquire into
and investigate all nuisances affecting the
health of the citizens of Catonsville and its

vicinity, and for this purpose he is hereby
authorized to go upon any premises or into
any house in Catonsville or its vicinity; and
upon a full report from him to the County
Commissioners of the existence of any public
or private nuisance in Catonsville or its vici-
nity, the said sanitary officer is hereby author-
ized and empowered, upon the approval and
direction of the said County Commissioners
to apply to the Circuit Court for Baltimore
county, or to either of said Judges of said
Court, by bill or petition, in the name of said
sanitary officer, for an injunction to restrain
and prevent such nuisance, or upon said report
of said sanitary officer of the existence of a
nuisance, under the direction of said County
Commissioners, said sanitary officer may be
directed to give notice to the owner or owners,
occupier or occupiers of any land or premises
upon which said nuisance may exist, to remove
