CHAPTER 397.
AN ACT to declare the sanction of the Gen-
eral Assembly of Maryland to the holding
and disposing of certain lots of ground by
"The Trustees of the Sharp-Street Station of
the Methodist Episcopal Church of the city
of Baltimore," and the "African Methodist
Bethel Church of the city of Baltimore,"
heretofore purchased by said churches and
used as burial grounds.
WHEREAS the Trustees of the Sharp-Street
Station of the Methodist Episcopal Church of
the city of Baltimore, and the African Metho-
dist Bethel Church of the city of Baltimore,
two religious corporations under the Laws of
this State, each bought, and for many years
have held and used for burial purposes, lots
of ground on or near to Bel Air avenue or Gay
street, in the city of Baltimore, the longer use

of which for burial purposes is rendered im-
practicable by the opening of streets and the
advance of improvements, whose sanitary
condition will not permit such use and the
right of said corporations to hold or transfer
said property after it ceases to be used for
burial purposes being called in question ;
therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General As-
sembly of Maryland, That the sanction of the
General Assembly of Maryland be and the
same is hereby given to the holding by "The
Trustees of the Sharp-Street Station of the
Methodist Episcopal Church of the city of
Baltimore," and by the "African Methodist
Bethel Church of the city of Baltimore," of

the lots of ground on or near to Bel Air avenue
or North Gay street in the city of Baltimore,
heretofore held and used by them respectively
for burial purposes, whether the same shall
continue to be used for burial purposes or not,
and if for sanitary reasons or from the advance
