CHAPTER 180.
AN ACT providing for the erection of a new
Jail in Washington county.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General As-
sembly of Maryland, That the County Com-
missioners of Washington county be and they
are hereby authorized and empowered, at their
discretion, either to erect a new Jail upon the
site of the present Jail of said county, or to
change the present location of said Jail, to sell
the present site, and the building and lands

thereto belonging, and to purchase a new site,
and to erect a new Jail upon said new site, at
such time as they may deem expedient; pro-
vided, that the provisions of this act shall
first be approved by a majority of the votes
cast by the qualified and registered voters of
said Washington county by ballot, at the ensu-
ing election for a Representative in the Con-
gress of the United States, in the Fall of the
year A. D. eighteen hundred and eighty-six.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That at said elec-
tion the ballots cast favoring said erection of
a new Jail for said county, shall have printed
or written on them the words "For the erec-
tion of a new Jail,'' and the ballots cast oppos-
ing the erection of a new Jail, shall have writ-
ten or printed upon them the words "Against

New jail.

the erection of a new Jail ;" and the said bal-
lots so cast, immediately after said election,
shall be carefully counted by the Judges of
said Election in each district of said county ;
and the said Judges shall, at the time they
cast up the vote for a Representative in Con-
gress, also cast up the vote "For and against
the erection of a new Jail," and certify the re-
sult of said voting to the Clerk of the Circuit
Court for said county, who shall file the same
in his office, and certify the result of the same
under his hand and the seal of his office, to the
County Commissioners of said county.
