Tilghman, James S. Burbage, William L. Laws
and Shadrack Short, as Directors, and all other
persons who, by becoming stockholders, may
be associated with them, shall be and they
are hereby made and constituted a body cor-
porate by the name and style of the Pocomoke

Land Improvement and Navigation Company,
and by that name shall have succession, and be
able to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded,
answer and be answered in any Court of Law
and Equity, and may have and use a common
seal, and the same alter and renew at pleasure,
and shall have the rights and privileges neces-
sary to purchase, lease, hold and possess such
lands, water and water-rights as may be neces-
sary for opening, enlarging, deepening a chan-
nel or canal through the center of a right-of-
way not less than two hundred feet in width
extending throughout the bed or middle thread
of Pocomoke river, from a point below Por-
ter's bridge on said river, where navigable
water ceases, up to the line dividing the States
of Maryland and Delaware; to build draw or

other sufficient bridges where public high-
ways cross said river; to erect wharves, dikes,
causeways, buildings and other conveniences
at any or all points on the borders of said
channel; to remove and prevent all obstruc-
tions having tendency to deflect or impede
the flow of water therein, or the navigation
thereof; to build and maintain across said
channel or canal such dams, locks and sluice-
ways as may be necessary to create slack-
water from point to point where necessary, or
throughout said channel or canal; to construct,
equip and repair such steam or other vessels
for transporting passengers, produce or mer-
chandise, and such dredging and other ma-
chines, machinery and lighters as may be
necessary for constructing, removing obstruc-
tions from and maintaining said channel or
canal, and the same to hold and possess, or
lease or sell again at pleasure, and generally
to do and perform all such acts as may be
necessary for the purposes of this company ;
