hundred and eighty-six, deducting, however,
from the entire sum the amount of two hun-
dred dollars already levied for and paid to
each paper for said advertisements.

SEC. 2. And 'be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 75.
AN ACT to authorize the Sheriff of Prince
George's County to appoint a guard to the
jail in said county.
|
|
|
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General As-
sembly of Maryland, That the Sheriff of
Prince George's county, for the time being,
shall have power to appoint one person as
guard to the jail in said county whenever in
his judgment, and the judgment of the
County Commissioners for said county, a
guard may be deemed necessary for the safe-
keeping of persons confined in said jail.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That said guard
when appointed, shall serve either day or
night, or both day and night, as directed by
the Sheriff appointing him, and he shall re-

ceive for his services the sum of one dollar
for each day, and one dollar for each night he
shall serve as such guard, to be certified by
the Sheriff, and such amount shall be levied by
the County Commissioners of Prince George's
county for the use of the said guard at their
regular term for levying taxes for each year,
if any guard shall have been appointed by
the Sheriff and served as aforesaid.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That any guard
appointed under this law shall hold his ap-
