ment, I was very much impressed, Dr. Kuhn, with your

statement in regard to the necessity for clarifying the

issue of academic freedom and the great importance in

this connection. I am so glad that you made it. What

I have in mind is this. It would certainly hold true,

|
the whole matter of academic freedom would hold true
|

equally for other higher educational institutions, as
|

well as the University of Maryland and it would seem to
|

|
me perhaps a statement of academic freedom at this level
|

|
that would be broader than just applying it to the
|
14
|
University of Maryland, but would apply broadly to the
|

|
higher education that might have great value and then
|

|
move on from there and make it plear that the bodies
|

|
that are responsible for ths various segments of higher
|
18
|
education have the kind of autonomy which you have set
|

|
forth.
