to his custody, showing by what authority, the offense
charged, the time when received and the time of discharge,
which statement or schedule, together with all books,
papers and commitments kept by him pertaining to pris-
oners in the Jail shall at all times be open to the inspection
of the County Commissioner, State's Attorney and Grand
Jury, and should the Sheriff neglect or refuse to keep said
book or comply with any of the duties which he is hereby
required to perform, he shall be guilty of a misdemeanor
and subject to indictment, and upon conviction thereof he
shall be fined a sum not exceeding one hundred dollars
($100. 00).

503. Said Sheriff shall be allowed his actual expenses
in transporting all prisoners to penal institutions, reforma-
tories and other places of confinement in the State of Mary-
land under sentence or order of any authorized authority.
The Sheriff shall submit monthly statements as to such
expenses and said expenses shall not be paid until itemized
statement, together with receipts showing the expenditures
actually made, is submitted to the County Commissioners.
The Sheriff shall also be allowed mileage at the rate of five
cents (5c) for each mile actually traveled in transporting
such prisoners if transported in a motor vehicle.

503A. The Sheriff shall be allowed no fees for making
investigations nor any mileage except when ordered out of
Dorchester County, but when ordered out of the County on
official business he shall be allowed mileage at the rate of
five cents (5c) per mile.

The Sheriff shall make monthly, under oath, to the
County Commissioners, a full and itemized report showing
any and all fees and receipts received by him and all actual
expenditures incurred by him in the discharge of his offi-
cial duties for the preceding month. It shall be unlawful
for the County Commissioners to pay the Sheriff for any
expenditures incurred by him until said report as herein
provided shall be submitted.

503B. The County Commissioners for Dorchester
County are hereby directed, authorized and empowered to
make provision by appropriation in their annual levy from
year to year for sufficient funds to pay the expenses here-
inbefore provided for. In computing the expenses of the
Sheriff's office the computation shall be made from the first
day of June in each and every year hereafter.
