affecting the validity of any remaining section or part of a
section of this Act, it being the legislative intent that the
remainder of this Act shall stand, notwithstanding the in-
validity of such section or part of a section.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act is an
emergency law and necessary for the immediate preserva-
tion of the public health and safety, and for maintaining
the State Government and having passed by a yea and nay
vote by three-fifths of all the members elected to each of the
two Houses of the General Assembly, the same shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 464.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Sections
502 and 503 of Article 10 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Dorchester
County, " sub-title "Sheriff, " and to add two new sections
to said Article, said new sections to be known as Sec-
tions 503A and 503B and to follow immediately after
Section 503 of said Article, relating to certain fees and
expenses of the Sheriff and reducing the cost, of board-
ing prisoners in Dorchester County:
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Sections 502 and 503 of Article 10 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition),
title "Dorchester County, " sub-title "Sheriff, " be and they
are hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments, and
that two new sections be and they are hereby added to said
Article, said new sections to be known as Sections 503A
and 503B, to follow immediately after Section 503 of said
Article, and all to read as follows:
502. The Sheriff of Dorchester County shall be allowed,
and the County Commissioners of Dorchester County shall
be required to pay the sum of forty cents (40c) per day
for boarding and keeping each prisoner committed to his
custody, and it shall be the duty of the Sheriff to keep a
book at the County Jail in which he shall keep a correct
and full statement or schedule of all prisoners committed
