at any time. It shall be the duty of the clerk in said
county, with the approval of the Supervisors of Elections,
to secure such temporary assistants as may be necessary for
the proper transaction of the business of the office, but
the compensation of such assistants shall not exceed the
sum of three hundred dollars ($300. 00) in any one year.
The salary of the clerk and the compensation of the tem-
porary assistants shall be payable by the County Commis-
sioners of Washington County.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1933.

CHAPTER 418.

AN ACT to authorize, empower and direct the Mayor and
and City Council of Cumberland to refund and pay for
the purpose of equalization certain sums of money paid
by property owners on Thompson Avenue, Ridgedale
Terrace, Brown Avenue, McKinley Avenue and Wood
Street, for which lien was filed against said properties
on the Land Records of Allegany County, November
17th, 1924, and in which it appears that the persons
herein set out paid the sums of money listed with their
respective names as full payment of the charges against
their respective properties, and by which lien and from
the records of the City of Cumberland, it is shown that
all other owners of property, against whom liens were
filed in said lien and on the records of the City of Cum-
berland, obtained adjustments and settlements of said
liens by the payment of one-half of the amount as-
sessed against the respective owners and property, or
by the conveyance of property mentioned in said lien
to the City of Cumberland.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Mayor and City Council of Cumber-
land, Maryland, be and they are hereby authorized, em-
powered, and directed to refund for the purpose of equal-
ization and adjustment one-half the sums of money paid
by property owners on Thompson Avenue, Ridgedale Ter-
race, Brown Avenue, McKinley Avenue and Wood Street,
